Elizabeth Banks is set to reprise her part in this sequel to the 2012 musical comedy surprise hit, as well as make her directorial debut.
As a producer and co-star in 2012’s surprise hit Pitch Perfect, Banks was allowed to steal her scenes in a small, but memorable role. Now, she is going to be able to direct them, as THR is reporting that The Hunger Gamesstar has signed on to make her directorial debut with Universal Pictures’ Pitch Perfect 2.
Banks is also slated to return in a starring capacity to the picture, which will continue the musical comedy journey of a collegiate all-girl group competing in the apparently cutthroat world of a cappella singing.
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, stars of the 2012 film, are also expected to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original Pitch Perfectfollowed a freshman musician (Kendrick) being slowly roped into the a cappella group, The Bellas, in a mad dash to national glory and pop tune covers. The film also grossed $115 million worldwide on a $17 million budget, and went on to be a home release smash success, causing it to be one Cinderella story that needs a follow-up after the sunset.
