Marvel Studios are so impressed with The Winter Soldier that they want Anthony and Joe Russo back for Captain America 3!

In the first bit of directorial re-upping from the whole of Marvel Studios’ Phase 2, Variety is reporting that the studio and Disney have attached Anthony and Joe Russo to the likely forthcoming Captain America 3.

Of course, actual negotiations and contracts will not be ironed out until after this spring’s release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but Marvel is purportedly so impressed with what the Russo brothers did with Steve Rogers’ most recent cinematic outing (it is apparently testing very well at the moment), that Marvel is keen to see them return for another entry.

While Marvel and the Russos’ PR teams remain quiet about this breaking news, Variety says that they are even already structuring an outline for what a tentative Captain America 3would look like. Obviously, Chris Evans would return, as a third Cap outing would be covered in his contractual agreement when he first agreed to play the character.

The Russos, who have earned their own geek fan following for directing a slew of the most iconic genre-bending episodes of Community (Joe Russo even directed last week’s volcanic farewell to Donald Glover), would mark the third time a director(s) was invited back to Marvel Studios, which also includes Jon Favreau’s Iron Man (2008) bringing him onboard for Iron Man 2 (2010) and Joss Whedon’s delirious take on The Avengers (2012) earning him Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

This is of course a very good omen for the likely balmy climate in The Winter Soldier.
