The creative collaborators of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are in talks to reteam for a film based on an early Shyamalan screenplay.
Fourteen years after the release of Unbreakable, The Sixth Season duo of Bruce Willis and M. Night Shyamalan are in talks to work on their third picture together. As first reported by Deadline, the film is to be based on one of Shyamalan’s earliest professional screenplays, the as-yet unproduced Labor of Love.
The script, which Shyamalan is seeking to buy the rights back to along with Emmett/Furla/Oasis, is apparently much closer in tone to Shymalan’s intial dramatic work, as opposed to the supernatural zeitgeist he caught later on in his career.
Labor of Love follows a Philadelphia bookstore owner (Willis) who lived very much in his own head. After his wife tragically and suddenly dies, the grief-ridden protagonist is filled with regret. He then decides to trek across the North American continent on foot as an act of love to her memory.
The Labor of Love project is targeting to begin production in September.
