Sony has bet the majority of its blockbuster money on Spider-Man movies through until 2018, the year in which The Amazing Spider-Man 4 has already been confirmed for release. So where in the scheme of things does that leave the once-mooted plan for a Venom spin-off movie? Well, as it turns out, it's still a project with a bit of life left to it.
In a new interview at Crave Online, producer Matt Tolmach has admitted that "there's nothing formal or official, but it's always been a dream to make that movie. We're just not there yet". But he did add that "Is there a sense that down the road things are going to happen? Sure".
That's still saying not too much, yet not closing the door on the project. Back in 2012, Chronicle's Josh Trank was linked with directing the movie, before he opted for Fantastic Four. Given that's going to keep Trank busy until 2015, we can presumably assume that Venom isn't going to be on his radar until then, if indeed there's any sliver on involvement left for him.
More on the Venom spin-off as we hear anything. But this one's been in gestation for a long time, and we suspect will be for some time to come.
