Dominic Cooper, who was Tony Stark’s father before getting a Need for Speed, talks about Warcraft
Dominic Cooper, who’s riding high in the new movie Need for Speed with Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad’s Jesse Pinkman, was cast in another video game adaptation, Duncan Jones's Azeroth derived from the world of Warcraft.
Dominic Cooper broke through in the role of Howard Stark, Tony Stark's father, in the comic book classic, Captain America: The First Avenger. As Dino Brewster in the Need for Speed movie, he played a much darker, treacherous character.
Speaking to Collider, the actor has high praise for the attention to detail that Jones put into Azeroth. He said "The world is very specific. What's been wonderful is seeing these guys who have this world in their heads for so many years. The creators of that game are suddenly on these sets, where the ideas that they had so many years ago have come to life, and it's been really exciting just to see that."
Cooper talked about the traps of getting caught up in the video game world "They have been so accurate and responsible to the game and to the people who play the game, love the game and want to see those characters in that world shown on the big screen. There is a huge responsibility for those people. They are the fans, and they are the ones who sit for hours, in that world. It's scary, but it's great. It's a huge lot of fun."
Cooper says he came to the part because of the script and the director and admitted "I knew very little of the game, so the storyline within the script was just completely crazy, but exciting. Coincidentally, it was another big idea of a game, but I knew very little of the game."
Warcraft is shooting right now and stars Ben Foster, Travis Flimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky and Clancy Brown.
Warcraft hits movie theaters on March 11, 2016.
