WB has found the new face to play the titular role in 2015's Pan. Levi Miller will star alongside Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara.
Warner Brothers and director Joe Wright have finally found their titular hero for next year’s Pan, and it’s in the young face of Levi Miller, who Wright cast after extensive casting calls in the UK.
Miller, previously best known for an episode of Terra Nova, will play the titular character in a film that is bursting with star wattage (and attention) with Hugh Jackman as the villainous Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as a young James Hook, and the most scrutinized casting of Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily. Despite having an Oscar nomination to her name for playing Lisbeth Salander in the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, there has been some vocal backlash to her casting as the famed “Indian Princess” of J.M. Barrie’s original Peter Pan play.
Pan is being directed by Wright (Atonement, Hanna) and is scripted by Jason Fuchs and Greg Berlanti. In this version, the story is relocated to World War II where Pan is an orphan kidnapped by Blackbeard’s pirates and whisked off to Neverland. WB has slated the picture for release on July 17, 2015.
