Rosemarie DeWitt will star in Tobe Hooper’s new look at Poltergeist that will be made by MGM and Fox 2000. They are still trying to conjure up a male lead. The revamped version will be directed by Gil Kenan. Pulitzer-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, who wrote Rabbit Hole and Oz the Great and Powerful, wrote the screenplay. Sam Raimi and Nathan Kahane are the producers.
DeWitt is fresh off her roles in Promised Land and Your Sister’s Sister. She and is currently starring with Jeremy Renner in Focus Features’ Kill The Messenger. DeWitt will next be seen on the big screen in Touchy Feely, directed by Lynn Shelton.
Jobeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson played the original mom and dad Freeling in the 1982 classic horror pic that was based on a true story. The paranormal investigators in The Conjuring made their bones on that haunting and the one in The Amityville Horror.
Poltergeist is due in 2014. It’s been in the works since 2008.
