David S Goyer has been chatting about why Warner Bros and DC isn't quite following the Marvel template...

The Marvel template is one that, unsurprisingly, more than one studio is trying to emulate. With Captain America: The Winter Soldier earning lots of money, the Marvel cinematic universe has served up a procession of hits, with plenty more on the horizon. As such, Sony is working on a broader Spider-Man movie universe, whilst Fox has similar plans for X-Men and probably Fantastic Four.

Warner Bros is being a little coyer with the DC movie universe though, and in a new interview with IGN, David S Goyer - one of the people responsible for that - has been chatting about it. When asked about tying some of the DC TV shows that are running into movies, Goyer said that "it's too early". He added that "I know that Warner Bros would love to make their universe more cohesive. There have been a lot of general conversations about that, but it's really, really early. I'm not sure. Marvel has had enormous success, but I'm not sure that everybody should try to emulate them either. It's just been vague conversations so far".

Adding that "you have to admire what Marvel's done", Goyer noted that his current challenge was the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman. "It's tricky", he said. "There's a reason why it hasn't been adapted for 15, 16 years. It's really dense and wonderful. Neil is a genius and cerebral. We're just getting into that right now. We'll see".

It does sound as though Goyer, and Warner Bros, are wary of simply following what Marvel has done. Conversely, there's the small matter of Batman Vs Superman in 2016, which is likely to define just how potent the on-screen DC universe can and will be.

The full interview with Goyer is here.
