In the next ten years, we're getting at least three Star Wars spin-off movies, if all goes to plan...

With shooting set to begin in earnest on Star Wars: Episode VII shortly, the first fruits of Disney's deal to buy Lucasfilm will be on their way to the screen. But JJ Abrams' new Star Wars trilogy is but one part of the mix, as Disney had also revealed plans for a series of Star Wars spin-off films.

That's still very much the plan too, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. In his latest quarterly earnings call to investors - this is a man who seems to spend an awful lot of time on the phone - Iger revealed that "at least three" spin-off films are now planned for the next decade.

Further details? Nope, not at this stage. Last we heard on the films themselves was that Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan were working on scripts, and the guess is that individual films centred on the characters of Han Solo, Boba Fett and possibly Yoda are quite likely.

The first spin-off is expected in cinemas in 2016.

It's a shame they won't be acknowledging the "expanded universe", since I think Brian Daley's Han Solo novels would provide incredible inspiration. Also, I'd love to see Josh Hartnett as a young Solo.

Not content to simply continue beating a dead horse anymore, the minds in charge of Star Wars have announced the following spinoffs:

Punching a Deceased Wookkiee
Flogging a Decomposed Tauntaun
Kicking an Expired Gungan
