Director Marc Webb reveals that for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, he is very interested in Kraven the Hunter.
The ending of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has left every web-loving true believer to ponder what the future of the wall-crawler will mean. We know that Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield will be back for potentially their last in the series (definitely Webb’s) with The Amazing Spider-Man 3. And with Sony’s slate still including Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs on the horizon, we too look at what the line-up can mean for the next movie, as well as who might play Mary Jane Watson in it. However, director Marc Webb obviously has his own ideas about where the web-slinger might be headed.
While speaking to Comicbook.com, Webb let spill that he is very, very interested in the character Kraven the Hunter. Sure, he names plenty of others who will be needed to fill out a Sinister Six line-up, including Vulture and Doc Ock, but it turns out that it’s old Sergei Kravinoff that catches the helmer’s eye first.
“Kraven,” Webb replied when asked about which villains interest him. “Kraven, I like the idea of Kraven. The Vulture, Doc Ock, I always thought the idea of Mysterio was interesting. Maybe Scorpion. But really, Kraven, I think is kind of interesting.”
Sergi Kravinoff had his first appearance in August 1964’s The Amazing Spider-Man #15 and was one of the founding members of the Sinister Six in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1. Originally the half-brother of Chameleon who was out for revenge on the web-slinger, as well as to prove that he was capable of hunting the greatest prey of all, man(-spider), he has always been portrayed as a game hunter wearing lion and cheetah furs.
However, Kraven really became one of the all-time great Spider-Man villains when J.M. DeMatteis discovered his obscure Russian history and crafted the iconic Spidey story “Kraven’s Last Hunt” around it in 1987. The story, which depicted Kraven as the last member of a Russian aristocracy that ended when his parents’ patron Tsar Nicholas II was murdered in the February Revolution, reimagines Kraven as a blue blood tragedy that had become obsessed with finding redemption by bathing in Spider-Man’s crimson red.
He has appeared in many stories since.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is due in June 2016.

Javier Bardem for Kraven please. He has the gravitas that is fitting for the role.
