Lloyd Kaufman and the Troma Team have been making the most of their time at the Cannes film festival. Along with premiering Return to Nuke ‘Em High (Vol. 1) and the trailer for Vol. 2, they’ve also been flipping the bird to cinema’s power elite by organizing the Occupy Cannes movement, a protest aimed at wrestling filmmaking away from corporations and returning it to the indies.
Apart from all that (and a big blowout of a party to celebrate independent art) they’ve also grabbed the opportunity to leak some pre-production test footage from Fernando Alle’s fourth feature, the Troma-produced Mutant Blast.
Alle’s previous film, 2011’s Banana Motherfucker, concerned what happens when a group of explorers desecrate an ancient burial ground, unleashing a dire curse that threatens to, yes, destroy the entire world. His 2009 feature, Papá Wrestling, focused on a former wrestler who goes on a Bloody Rampage of Justice after bullies steal his sons lunchbox. Currently prepping to shoot this summer in Portugal, the story behind Mutant Blast remains shrouded in deep mystery.
