The list of names "linked" with the Ant-Man director's chair continues, Michael Douglas on Wright's departure, Doctor Strange casting...
*** UPDATED: Peyton Reed has been announced as the new Ant-Mandirector. Details here. We don't expect confirmation on the Dr. Strange stuff at the bottom of this article any time soon, though... ***
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Ant-Manstory has gone from shocking to exhausting to just plain annoying at this point. Basically, if you're a comedy director not in the midst of shooting something else at the moment, you're likely to be named as a potential Ant-Mandirector. We've already lost count of names that have been linked and then either dismissed or bowed out, but that isn't deterring Marvel, who are determined that Ant-Man will still hit its July 17h, 2015 release.
To that end, it looks like Peyton Reed (Yes Man, Bring it On) and David Wain (Role Models, the beloved Wet Hot American Summer) have now emerged as the latest potential directors for Marvel's embattled Ant-Man movie.
Some details from The Hollywood Reporter's take on this story include the fact that Marvel is looking for "someone who can work with the talent already assembled," which would make Wain a logical choice, having just worked with Ant-Manstar Paul Rudd on the upcoming They Came Together. The Wrap, on the other hand, are betting on Peyton Reed. Neither inspire the kind of confidence that a name like Edgar Wright did, though.
Speaking of which, Michael Douglas (Hank Pym in the Ant-Man movie) spoke to Schmoes Knowabout Edgar Wright's departure:
I was… I was very disappointed. I am a big fan of his movies. It’s a very disappointing situation. Happened very late in the game. I don’t think anybody’s quite recovered. My heart goes out to Edgar – he’s been involved with the project for a long time. But he’s talented enough that you’ll be hearing a whole lot from him and I’m sure with a little vengeance.
Finally, and in the "wake us when it happens" department, Deadlinereports that Marvel's "wish list" for the part of Doctor Strange includes Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy. Yes, Marvel's and everybody else's. Since Benedict Cumberbatch has been "linked" to every fan-centric role other than Wonder Woman in the last few years, it's tough to really take this too seriously just yet. Then again, a wish list is just that, a wish list, and both of these actors (ahem...particularly Mr. Cumberbatch) would make a fine Stephen Strange.
