The rumblings that Gareth Edwards' stand-alone Star Wars spin-off will be a Boba Fett movie continue...

Oh, the secrecy. It drove the internet mad in the early days of Star Wars: Episode VII, but that was relieved somewhat by the casting announcements and JJ Abrams' sense of humor regarding things like set photo leaks. So now, it's time for us to turn our attention to 2016's Star Wars film, the one directed by Godzilla's Gareth Edwards, and the one that most folks seem to think is the long-rumored Boba Fett solo movie.

Mr. Edwards is aware of the pressure he's under, having recently told an auditorium full of film students at the Beijing Film Academy, "I am very, very lucky, living in a dream job at the moment. I’m not allowed to talk about it, it’s all very secretive, but it’s a dream come true. Star Warsis the reason I got into film-making, so to be given this opportunity is like a dream. Now the pressure is on."

One thing that isn't secretive about that unnamed Star Wars spinoff is that, like Star Wars: Episode VII, it's going to film at Pinewood Studios in London.

"Lucasfilm and Disney's decision to shoot the Star Wars stand-alone movie in the U.K. is testament to the incredible talent in Britain," George Osborne, Britain's Chancellor of the Exhequer told the press (via The Hollywood Reporter). He even tweeted an "official set photo" from the Star Wars: Episode VII set, with Mr. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, and one of the film's stars.

And then there's the unconfirmed report that Lawrence Kasdan is writing the Boba Fett movie (via Schmoes Know). This is now speculation upon speculation, though. If Gareth Edwards is indeed directing the Boba Fett movie (and not, for example, a Han Solo film), then one would think that Gary Whitta, the screenwriter named in the official announcement of Edwards' involvement, is the guy writing it. That still assumes that Edwards is directing Boba Fett in the first place, though. Maybe that's Josh Trank's job.

But it all comes back to secrecy, doesn't it?

In any event, Gareth Edwards'Star Warsmovie will be released on December 16th, 2016.
