While talking to Frank Grillo, the actor revealed to us that we have barely seen Crossbones' role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While certainly a supporting baddie, Frank Grillo’s Brock Rumlow left an impression in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A sort of cautionary mirror for Cap about what can happen if he becomes a mercenary tool for the government (or worse, HYDRA!), Rumlow is the biggest physical threat to Cap of the strictly “human” characters and goes from bemused fan to burn victim who seems only a heartbeat away from either death or Crossbones infamy.
So, when I had the chance to sit down with Grillo to discuss his starring role in next month’s anticipated horror sequel, The Purge: Anarchy, the subject of the Crossbones character inevitably had to come up. While we’ll have the full interview for you closer to The Purge’s release, here is what Grillo had to say about the future of his character and his six-picture deal with Marvel Studios.
Have you talked to Marvel Studios or Disney about appearing in Captain America 3?
Frank Grillo: Well, I’m signed on for six movies. So, somewhere down the road, yeah.”
So we haven’t seen the last of Crossbones?
FG: No. Definitely not. I don’t think we’ve seen the beginnings of Crossbones!
Well, that's encouraging. While we won't spoil it here, Crossbones plays a major part in the next logical step for the folks adapting the entire Winter Soldier saga. We go into a little more detail about how Crossbones' comic book roots could impact his cinematic future here.
Mr. Grillo also confirmed to our UK team that he's one of the leads in the upcoming US remake of The Raid.
We'll have our full interview with Frank Grillo for you a little closer to the release of The Purge: Anarchy.
