Nathan Fillion is in Guardians of the Galaxy. He's probably not playing who you think he is, though.
Nathan Fillion's presence in Guardians of the Galaxy has long been rumored. Well, more than rumored. Pretty much everyone knew he had a small role in the film. But recently, the Fillion watch got folks thinking that maybe he had a more critical role in the cosmic end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than we originally believed. Well, while we still don't know his role, we know he's in the movie, and we know who he isn't playing.
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has confirmed via Twitter that yes, Nathan Fillion is in Guardians of the Galaxy. He also has assured fans that Mr. Fillion is not playing cosmic Marvel superhero Nova.
The rumors of my pal @NathanFillion playing Nova in #guardiansofthegalaxy have been greatly (and entirely) exaggerated. Sorry, humans.

“@STARS_TyranT: Are the rumours true that he has some part in the film?” @nathanfillion has a very small fun cameo he did as a favor to me.

Now, hair-splitters may wonder if Mr. Fillion, who certainly wouldn't be playing the Richard Rider or Sam Alexander versions of Nova, could be playing Jesse Alexander, the father of Sam, who is in fact a Nova Corps member, but not actually, y'know, "Nova." Probably not, though.
We'll all find out when Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1st.
