Diablo Cody, writer of Juno and Young Adult, is out to stretch her legs in her first directorial effort, Paradise.
Lamb (Julianne Hough) is a small town girl who lived a quiet and Christian life with her mother (Holly Hunter) until she is one day badly burned by jet fuel. Contemplating all sorts of sinful behavior, including voting for the Democratic Party(!), she goes to Las Vegas to change her fortune. There she meets bartender William (Russell Brand) and worldly Loray (Octavia Spencer) who take her on the wildest night of her life across the Strip. Emphasis on HER LIFE.
This looks like a curious dramedy about the live experiences that awaken after tragedy. But personally, while I still defend Juno from its post-hype backlash, I am still cautiously intrigued by Cody going on her own to create this tale.
