The new horror movie gives us an extended look at its background before the film hits theaters.

After the surprise box office success of summer horror films like Insidious and The Conjuring, studios are desperately looking for the next potential hit. Those two pictures have birthed unlikely franchises, and now producer Jerry Bruckheimer seems keen on securing his own horror franchise.

Bruckheimer may just have one with Deliver Us From Evil. The film features the demonic exorcism element that seems crucial in these new horror hits, but also introduces a true crime element to add its own unique twist on the genre. Based on the book Beware the Night by Ralph Sarchie, the film follows real police investigator Sarchie (Eric Bana) as he investigates a series of horrifying and bizarre crimes that he cannot understand. Sarchie seeks help from an unorthodox priest named Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) to help him understand the possibly demonic cases. The film also stars Joel McHale has Ralph's partner and Olivia Munn as his wife.

Deliver Us From Evil is directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister) who just recently signed a deal with Marvel to direct their upcoming Phase Three picture Doctor Strange. It's possible that early screenings of Deliver Us From Evil helped the director land the coveted gig.

The film debuts next week on July 2, but a new featurette has been released that chronicles the tale of the real Ralph Sarchie. The 15-minute featurette is sure to develop further interest in Sarchie and the upcoming film. Look below for the featurette and catch Deliver Us From Evil in theaters on July 2.
