With a tweet, Christopher McQuarrie confirmed that he is directing Mission: Impossible 5. No word on whether the tweet will self-destruct or anything like that. There was never any real doubt that there would be a fifth installment of the Mission: Impossiblefranchise. The fourth film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, made over $200 million in the U.S. alone, and revitalized a franchise that some thought had run its course.

Drew Pearc is currently writing the script for Mission: Impossible 5, although there's no word yet on whether McQuarrie will also have a hand in the screenplay as he did with his two previous directorial efforts, Jack Reacherand Way of the Gun. McQuarrie is the latest in an impressive list of directors who have helmed the Mission: Impossible films, including Brian DePalma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams, and Brad Bird.
