Bond 24's production start has been delayed until December 2014 so Neal Purvis and Robert Wade can add humorous dialogue.
After the wild success of Skyfall, which was the first Bond movie to cross $1 billion at the box office, everyone and their Adele-loving mother is waiting with baited breath for Bond 24. Well, it looks like at least the actors will have to wait a bit longer since production on the latest 007 flick has been delayed for two months before it can begin principal photography.
As first reported in The Daily Mail, the fourth Daniel Craig tour On Her Majesty’s Secret Service has to be interrupted as EON and director Sam Mendes bring on screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to give a dialogue polish to some of John Logan’s script.
According to an unnamed source of The Daily Mail, it is because Logan’s script has “no blood; no scars.”
Wade and Purvis are apparently most being targeted to punch up the humor in the story, which is reported to be thin. Not an original complaint lobbied at the Daniel Craig 007 tenure, these witticisms have nonetheless led EON to wish to expand on the interplay between Bond and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris), as well as Bond and the new M (Ralph Fiennes).
Intriguingly, Wade and Purvis have played a major role in the scripting of every Bond film since The World is Not Enough, including Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace. They were allowed to move on after Mendes brought in Oscar winning screenwriter John Logan to rewrite their script for Skyfall. A noted Ian Fleming enthusiast, Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Penny Dreadful) was credited with giving Skyfall its edge. Apparently for Bond 24, EON and Mendes want to walk away from that sharp point a little.
