Besides being the moniker for one o f the Beatles’ best (and most haunting) tunes, the name Eleanor Rigby has now taken on the reputation of the very well received and high concept, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.
Technically the title of three separate films that combine together to fully explain this story, first-time director Ned Benson has cut up all three volumes, which tell roughly the same story in the same time period, into three different perspectives: Him, Her, and Them. Her premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival while Them became the definitive “wide” version of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby when it premiered at Cannes last month. That is also the version that is being released now and can be sampled in the trailer below! Him and Her will be released in select theaters as alternative films in the months ahead.
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby follows the love story of a young New York married couple named Connor Ludlow (James McAvoy) and Eleanor Rigby (Jessica Chastain). After a life-changing event, the couple will be certainly tested when Eleanor Rigby chooses to…disappear.
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby will have its U.S. release on September 26, 2014.
