Kate Mara plays Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. How did she prepare for the role? Well...

Internet, you may start your outrage....now. Actually, please don't do that. It's exhausting. So, how does the new Sue Storm, Kate Mara, prepare for her role as one of the most storied superheroines in comic book history for the new Fantastic Four movie? That's a good question, because it sure ain't the obvious answer, which would be to read the comics.

In an interview with Esquire Mexico, Ms. Mara spoke candidly about her preparation for the role. Little did she know that such an innocent, honest quote would be the Mrs. O'Leary's Cow of an internet firestorm that will probably be forgotten by Friday.

"I've never been a fan of comics, I've never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn't do it because the plot won't be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it's very exciting to be part of a movie like this."

Seriously, though. Relax. We all need to stop pretending that the talented men and women who play these roles share the same passion for the characters that we do. And, if you really want to get technical, most of the beloved Marvel Studios films haven't been all that tied to particular comic book stories, either. It's quite possible that's what this quote means.

If the new Fantastic Four movie is going to have problems, they may stem more from what sounds like a reluctance to embrace the tone of what made the Fantastic Four such an enduring franchise. I understand that a departure from the previous two films is necessary, but it'd be a shame to see the FF, not only the foundation on which the Marvel Universe was built, one filled with they spectacular inter-dimensional imagery of Jack Kirby at the height of his creative powers, be reduced to the pursuit of "realism."

The Fantastic Four will arrive on June 19th, 2015. You can read everything else we know about the film right here.

They already made the perfect FF film in tone, heroics and cool 60s-vibe. It was called "The Incredibles."

I don't have a problem with actors not being passionate about the roles they accept. If they're good enough actors, who's going to know? My gripe is that you're using the same characters from a well-established franchise while looking nothing like their consistent images from 50+ years of drawings and that your "plot won't be based on any history of anything already published" (though one might look at such plots instead of dismissing them outright, since many were written by accomplished, awarded individuals who created these characters and may know something about them).

I can't be far enough away from the theater on June 19th when this bomb starts showing.
