Rumoured for a while but is it any closer to production? Ford has been chatting about a possible return for Indiana Jones 5...

There can't be too many clamouring for a fifth instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise, particularly given that it's one that demonstrates the law of diminishing returns (well, with the last episode anyway). Still, however, rumors of a fifth instalment crop up from time to time with the most recent news being a script was being worked on but George Lucas had yet to find a good enough MacGuffin.

Since Disney bought LucasFilm, there's been pretty much radio silence on the once proposed Indiana Jones 5. But Harrison Ford has been asked about it, and he's duly answered. "We've seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it's perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn't necessarily have to kick as much ass", he told The Telegraph.

Ford continued: "To me, what was interesting about the character was that he prevailed, that he had courage, that he had wit, that he had intelligence, that he was frightened and that he still managed to survive. That I can do.”

So then, this is far from a definitive confirmation of his desire to return to the role or that one is likely but it's a slightly warmer stance than we've had from the actor previously. With a solid story, there's no reason why a fifth instalment couldn't work but we find it more likely that time will pass and the series will be rebooted if anything. Because realistically, the chances of a full-on Indiana Jones 5 continue to look slim.

Isn't he at that stage of life where it's time to start doing reverse mortgage commercials?

HA!!!!

My name is Harrison and I have Mesothelioma.

Yes... everyone wants one but nobody will like what they get. Face it, 'Crystal Skull' was no more goofy than melting Nazi's, pulling the beating heart out of a man, or ancient Knights. I had just as much fun with CS. And, I'll enjoy the next one... should it happen.

I'll have to agree with you here, but how would they write a starring action role with a 71 year old actor? That's the part that is throwing people off I think.

but to be fair, they tried handing the reins off. And honestly, introducing Indy's son was a good idea for carrying on the franchise. Not saying it worked, but if they had made indy's son an interesting character we would want to follow, it would have worked. But you almost want the kind of well written material we got between Indy and his father in 'Last Crusade' to pull that off.
