Co-writer says Gunn will be back for Guardians of the Galaxy 2
With the August 1 release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy still a week away, the film’s director and co-writer James Gunn is apparently going to return for the movie’s sequel.
Screenwriter Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote the first Guardians script, told The Wrap today at Comic-Con that Gunn will be in charge of the team’s next adventure. That’s why we’ve added the “apparently” to the story – because while Perlman may have some inside info, Marvel has yet to officially announce that there will even be a Guardians 2.
However, that seems almost certain: the movie is getting rave reviews and box office tracking is strong, so if it turns out to be the hit that Marvel hopes for, a follow-up is guaranteed – and will no doubt fill one of the many open release dates that Marvel has booked through 2019.
Gunn himself has indicated in multiple interviews that he wants to return for Guardians 2, and there’s even been buzz that he could be handed the keys to Avengers 3 if Joss Whedon doesn’t come back for a third installment.
We may know more after tomorrow afternoon, when Marvel makes its highly-anticipated presentation in Hall H at Comic-Con, so stay tuned…
