Dimension Films and The Conjuring's James Wan are releasing a new horror movie, Demonic, just in time for the holidays.
When I talked to his Saw and Insidious writer/collaborator Leigh Whannell last year, he said that James Wan might be moving away from directing horror movies. Indeed, with his hands more than full now as the helmer of Fast & Furious 7, it is hard to imagine The Conjuring director returning to the genre anytime soon.
However, that never meant anything about producing more horror movies! In fact, Wan is now executive producing what will clearly be December’s stab at counter-programming.
For those who may not feel quite so full of cheer this holiday season, Dimension Films has announced that they will be releasing Demonic on December 12, 2014.
The film is based on an original idea that Wan wrote. With Will Canon directing the picture, the set-up sounds different enough to lure those in who still will appreciate The Conjuring influences.
Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy) and Maria Bello (A History of Violence) star as a pair of detectives who are looking into what happened when something went very wrong to a group of amateur paranormal investigators. Five college students thought the were hunting ghosts when they spent the night in an abandoned haunted home, but chances are they ran into something far more…demonic.
With all five kids mysteriously dead, Grillo and Bello enter the premises to discover what is wrong with the house.
For some, it would appear that December is not the most wonderful time of the year.
