The Pride and Prejudice and Zombies film has returned with Lily James, Sam Riley, and Bella Heathcote set to star in the major roles.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains. And so it is that the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie has risen from the grave once more to haunt moviegoers.

Once a hot commodity in Hollywood following its 2009 publication that won over fans and even some Jane Austen purists with author Seth Grahame-Smith’s amusing “small” alterations to the original text for some zombie-killing excursions, there was once a time when David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) would direct the picture with Natalie Portman set to star as the zombie-killing heroine in need of a husband…and a machete.

And the project has returned again as Lily James (Cinderella), Sam Riley (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), and Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) have been cast in the lead roles for the film.

With Igby Goes Down director Burr Steers set to helm from a screenplay by David O. Russell, the film has found financing with Sierra/Affinity producing, alongside Brian Oliver, Allison Shearmur, Sean McKittrick, Natalie Portman, Annette Savitch, Tyler Thompson, and Marc Butan.

James will be playing the famed Elizabeth Bennet who in this adaptation will have the unique challenge of fending the “sorry stricken” undead, as well as feelings for Mr. Darcy. The mythical romantic hero will be played by Riley, and Heathcote has been cast as one of Elizabeth’s sisters, likely Jane Bennet.

Undoubtedly, this adaptation of Austen’s famed classic will differ slightly from the Joe Wright 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and the 1995 BBC production with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Just a hunch.
