Of the big films released between April and August in the US, up to a dozen are already getting sequels...
If you're looking for a quick snapshot of where blockbuster cinema is right now, then how about this: 12 films released this summer look like they're going to get sequels.
Some of said sequels were already in gestation before the film in question was released. A new Apesfilm, for example, already had a release date before Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes hit big. But here are the films that already have confirmed sequels on the way:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (sequel due 2016)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (sequel due 2018, spin-offs beforehand)
Godzilla(date to be confirmed)
X-Men: Days Of Future Past (sequel due 2016)
How To Train Your Dragon 2 (sequel due 2016)
Transformers: Age Of Extinction (sequel due 2016)
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes(sequel due 2016)
Guardians Of The Galaxy (sequel due 2017)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (sequel due 2016)
And here are the ones that haven't been confirmed, but discussions are believed to be well underway.
Neighbors(Seth Rogen has revealed a follow-up is being discussed)
Maleficent (Disney has been chatting about a sequel, Angelina Jolie is said to be keen)
The Purge: Anarchy (a third movie is expected to be confirmed)
The only big hits where a sequel hasn't been strongly suggested this summer (and we're counting films released in the US between April and August)? Lucy, Rio 2 (where one will likely happen) and The Fault In Our Stars (where one won't).
There are no plans that we know of for Blended 2, in case you were wondering. Pity that.
