Simon Pegg speaks about his excitement over Bob Orci taking over directorial duties for Star Trek 3, saying he's the biggest Trekkie.
Ever since it was revealed three months ago that Roberto Orci would be taking over the reins for Star Trek 3, there has been some division amongst the franchise’s fans. However, one of its key stars couldn’t be more pleased about this development.
While speaking to the BBC, Simon Pegg, who plays Enterprise Engineer Scotty in the space opera reboot, talked about his excitement of Orci taking over directorial duties.
“I’m really happy he’s doing it, as it’s kept within the family kind of thing; it’s not somebody coming in from outside,” Pegg said. “Bob’s been there since the first Star Trek– by that I mean the 2009 one – so it seemed to make perfect sense that he come in as a director on this one, because he gets it. He was always the most Trekkie of all of those guys anyway; he’s always understood the story the best, so it’s great that he’s going to be involved in the writing and directing.”
Given Pegg’s current MVP status in the franchise those may be some reassuring words for the most diehard Trekkers. But we’ll all find out for sure when Star Trek 3 sails into theaters in 2016.
