Marvel's Ant-Man movie may get a boost from Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark.

Might we get some more of the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Ant-Man movie? It sounds that way. Reliable reports indicate that Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, and Toby Jones may show up as Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Arnim Zola, respectively.

Now, there is a bit of a problem with this story, but The Tracking Boardis usually on the money with stuff like this. For starters, they report this info comes from an Edgar Wright-penned draft of the Ant-Man script, written before he left the project. That's not impossible, but all signs point to Wright's eventual departure stemming from his wanting to avoid exactly this kind of Marvel franchise cross-pollination. Our buddies in the UK wrote an excellent piece detailing the progression of Wright's involvement in the project (which you can read here), and the one recurring theme is Wright's insistence that he didn't want to "get into the whole Marvel history."

We suppose it's possible that there are some crossed wires here, and that this is coming from material added post-Wright...or perhaps these are from the surprise studio re-write that reportedly drove him off the project once and for all. On the other hand, by all accounts the Ant-Man movie sounds like it has a bit of a "legacy character" feel to it, with Michael Douglas' Hank Pym considerably older than Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, and it's been said that we'd get some Hank Pym Ant-Man action flashbacks in the sixties at some point in the film. With that in mind, the presence of characters like Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter or Marvel Cinematic Universe techno-godfather Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) would make perfect sense.

Not to mention the fact that Marvel have that the Agent Carter TV series on the horizon, and which will begin filming while Ant-Man is already well into production. Since Agent Carter boasts big-screen Marvel veteran directors like Joe Johnston and the Russo Brothers (and Marvel One-Shot director Louis D'Esposito) for four of its first eight episodes this may have a bit more of a cinematic feel than its counterpart, Agents of SHIELD. It probably wouldn't take all that much for these three to film a few scenes for Ant-Man
