The director of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 is still keeping a careful eye on Ghostbusters 3 as a producer.

There have been all manner of upheavals surrounding Ghostbusters 3 over the last year. The passing of Harold Ramis put a tremendous dent in the project, and it was the final straw in Ivan Reitman's involvement as director. The hunt for a new director is on, with Paul Feig's name being the latest to surface in connection to an all-female Ghostbustersflick. But none of this means that Reitman has left the project.

"I am very involved," Mr. Reitman told Superhero Hype. "I’m a producer of the film."

He elaborated about his general feelings on the project:

"I suddenly felt that Ghostbustersdidn’t necessarily need me as a director, at least I didn’t need to direct Ghostbusters, let me put it that way. Having done the other two and with the passing of Harold and with Bill Murray seeming disinterested being in it, I thought it was better for me just to produce it and to make sure we’re going to have the quality and style of what is appropriate for another version of that film. But the franchise could benefit from somebody else’s point of view. I’ve done it twice before and it will be great to get somebody else to lend a hand as well."

No mention of the Paul Feig Ghostbustersmovie that may or may not end up being Ghostbusters 3, unfortunately. But it's good to know that Reitman is still keeping a careful eye on the project, if for no other reason than to make certain that the tone remains consistent. It still sounds like the plan is to get this movie into production in 2015, though.

More on Ghostbusters 3 as we hear it.
