We pay our respects to Richard Attenborough, the legendary British actor, director and producer.
Each generation will have their own memories of the late Richard Attenborough. Some will remember him for his work as a character actor on the stage and the big screen in the 1940s, 50s and 60s, such as the terrifying Pinkie Brown in the film adaptation of Brighton Rock, Roger Bartlett in The Great Escape, or Billy Savage in Seance On A Wet Afternoon.
Others will remember him as the Oscar-winning producer and director of such films as Young Winston, A Bridge Too Far, Ghandi, Chaplin, and Shadowland. A younger generation will never forget his turn as John Hammond, the quixotic dinosaur maker in Jurassic Parkand its sequel, The Lost World.
Although Ghandisaw Attenborough at the height of his critical acclaim - the film was nominated for 11 Oscars, and won eight - he continued to produce remarkable work from beginning to end. At the same time, he was a generous and vocal patron of such charities as the Muscular Dystophy Campaign and United World Colleges.
Richard Attenborough sadly died on the 24th August at the age of 90, bringing to a close a long and extraordinary career. He leaves behind a varied and glittering body of work, but most of all, those memories of a warm, witty and exceptionally talented actor and filmmaker.
