Dax Shepard is to bring the 70s and 80s TV show CHiPs to the big screen...

Running from 1977 to 1983, the antics of the Chicago Highway Patrol in CHiPsgave NBC a big hit show, one that enjoyed solid success over in the UK, too. The focus was on a pair of police officers patrolling the highways of California on their motorbikes, and several attempts have been made over the years to try and mount a movie version of the show.

However, Warner Bros is going to have another go.

The studio has hired Dax Shepard to star in, write and direct a CHiPsmovie, with him taking on the role of Jon Baker (played by Larry Wilcox in the TV show). Michael Pena is set to play Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello (originally played by Erik Estrada). Shepard is reportedly looking to make CHiPsmore along the lines of a buddy cop movie.

He previously directed Hit And Run, having done his own stunts there, given that he's a professional race car drive and keen motorcyclist. We suspect he'll find vehicular things to get up to on the CHiPs set, too.

There's no date yet as to when we can expect the CHiPsmovie, but it does now seem to have a good wind behind it. We'll keep you posted as we hear more....
