Dracula Untold has been moved from its original release date to October 10th, ready to sink its teeth into the competition.
For those yearning to learn the answers behind the most famous vampire’s origins, we have good news: Universal and Legendary Pictures’ Dracula Untold has been moved up a week from its original slated release date to October 10th.
This news shows that there will be both more breathing room for mainstream horror films come October (as Paranormal Activity is a Halloween no-show yet again), but also more fiercely divisive competition. Dracula Untold—which stars Luke Evans as a heroic Vlad Tepes, seduced into vampirism in order to save his family—now opens merely a week after Warner Brothers’ Annabelle takes an October 3rd bow. However, this gives more space to the other Universal Pictures (as well as Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse Productions) horror movie also coming out in October: Ouija, which is due to slide into theaters on October 24th.
For their fourth official attempt to unearth the Undead count in Dracula Untold, Universal has partnered with Legendary Pictures with the intent of going back to the “origins” of the vampire. Yes, it is true that the connection between Vlad Tepes (Vlad The Imapler) and vampires was first made by Bram Stoker in his 1897 novel Dracula, but let us not quibble over details. In this Halloween-timed vampire flick, directed by first-timer Gary Shore, Universal time warps to the 15th century. After the fall of Constantinople, Eastern Europe is in a world of religious and cultural upheaval. Out of the darkness arises a Romanian Prince Vlad (Luke Evans) whose unusual story will inevitably take him down the dark and damned path of the Nosferatu. Complete with Dominic Cooper, Charlie Cox, Charles Dance, Sarah Gadon, and Samantha Barks as a succubus claiming men’s souls.
Dracula Untold opens October 10, 2014.
