Borgias star Sean Harris has been offered the role of the lead villain in Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible 5.
As every Mission: Impossible film to date has been essentially starting from scratch, each installment offers a whole new milieu to choose from (save of course for Tom Cruise as the heroic Ethan Hunt). And it would appear that the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5 is no different as Paramount Pictures appears to have offered the lead villain role to actor Sean Harris.
Set to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who worked with Cruise on Jack Reacher, MI:5 is one of the more anticipated franchise movies of 2015, and is still coming together after they very well-received 2011 entry, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
Harris is a well-known British actor who has played a sliding scale of gray characters in the past. Possibly best known for playing the ruthlessly cold assassin Micheletto on Showtime’s The Borgias, Harris has also appeared in Prometheus and the British crime epic, The Red Riding Trilogy.
The previous film in the franchise, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, was directed by the very in-demand Brad Bird and starred Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton in addition to Cruise. It is unclear if either shall return. That film grossed $209 million in the U.S. alone and earned a grand total of almost $700 million worldwide.
Mission: Impossible 5 will be in theaters on Christmas Day in 2015.
