In the new Serena trailer, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence share their third film together in a Prohibition passion play.
Apparently adamant on becoming the 21st century’s Tracy and Hepburn (or perhaps just the more platonic Fred and Ginger?), Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have teamed up again for this fall’s upcoming Serena, a passion play of crime, ambition, and love set in Prohibition-era North Carolina.
The film, which is directed by Susanne Bier from a screenplay by Christopher Kyle, tells the story of a newlywed couple caught in a whirlwind romance: North Carolinian George Pemberton (Cooper) and his Bostonian bride Serena Shaw (Lawrence). When he takes her to the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, she becomes as much a business partner in the burgeoning Pemberton Timber Empire as his doting wife. They even eliminate the competition together. But when Serena learns of her husband’s out-of-wedlock child from a long-past dalliance, a reckoning is at hand.
While it’s their third movie together, Serena was actually shot immediately after Silver Linings Playbook. As based on the book by Ron Rash, it became a Lawrence vehicle before her Oscar campaign when she convinced Cooper to board the project.
Currently, it has no North American distributor, but it is due to open in the UK beginning with the London Film Festival on October 24, 2014.
