The Vacation reboot starring Ed Helms and Leslie Mann begins production today, as the wonderful Wally World comes into view.
Following yesterday’s announcement that Ed Helms and Leslie Mann will keep the Griswold family vacation tradition alive, Warner Bros./New Line Cinema announced Tuesday that production has begun on Vacation, a reboot of the 1983 classic. Plus, we now have the full synopsis.
With principal photography commencing in Georgia, this new Vacation returns to the road trip comedy stapes that made the original film written by the late-great John Hughes, and directed by the equally late-great Harold Ramis, into a standard of the genre.
Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Christina Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Wally World.
Oh, Rusty. You will never learn.
Who apparently has is Audrey Griswold, played by Leslie Mann. It appears that Audrey has chosen better than her aunt, and the scene-stealing, mooching brother-in-law Cousin Eddie, brilliantly played by Randy Quaid, has been replaced by a far more successful and alpha male relation: Audrey has married Stone Crandall, a rich brother-in-law for Rusty to despise.
Charlie Day will also be re-teaming with his Horrible Bosses directors to play a river rafting guide that makes Rusty’s life horrific. Skylar Gisondo and Steele Stebbins fill out the rest of the cast, as Rusty’s two sons.
The first feature from writers-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, they previously wrote the screenplays for both Horrible Bosses and its sequel, as well as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo are expected to at least briefly reprise their parts as Clark and Ellen Griswold.
Maybe for the sequel they can have a Christmas dinner? Just don’t go to Europe.
