Yet another original Ghostbuster has decided to sound off about the status of the Ghostbusters universe. This time it's Ray Stantz...
While it's impossible to gauge just how far along Ghostbusters 3 is, or which version of it we're even discussing, at least we know that the project has a heartbeat. Everyone from Ivan Reitman to Ernie Hudson to Bill Murray have offered thoughts on it in recent weeks, and now Dan Aykroyd has jumped in, as well. He's got a slightly different take on it, though.
You see, Mr. Aykroyd wants a shared Ghostbustersuniverse, not just a Ghostbusters 3.
"It’s beyond just another sequel, a prequel, another TV show. I'm thinking what does the whole brand mean to Sony? What does Pixar and Star Warsmean to Disney? What does Marvel mean to Fox?"
In other words, his vision goes far beyond Ghostbusters 3. "The whole vehicle of Ghostbustershas to be rebuilt," he said. "That’s the ambitious thinking that’s going on now. Taking on the model of Marvel where we take all of the elements that are in this movie and we put them out there as different ideas."
Considering that after 25 years, they've failed to make Ghostbusters 3 materialize, this all seems a little ambitious, indeed.
There's more from Mr. Aykroyd over at The Hollywood Reporter.
