Jason Schwartzman, Elisabeth Moss, and Jonathan Pryce star in the new literary comedy, Listen Up Philip.
Being a writer is difficult. Being a writer living in New York while being patronized by your far more successful mentor can be Hell, as well as a potentially revelatory comedy, as glimpsed in the new trailer for Listen Up Philip.
In the new film from writer and director Alex Ross Perry, Philip (Jason Schwartzman) awaits the publication of his sure-to-succeed second novel. He feels pushed out of his adopted home city by the constant crowds and noise, a deteriorating relationship with his photographer girlfriend Ashley (Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss), and his indifference to promoting his own work. When Philip’s idol Ike Zimmerman (Jonathan Pryce) offers his isolated summer home as a refuge, he finally gets the peace and quiet to focus on his favorite subject – himself.
Set to open theatrically on October 17, 2014, and to be available on VOD and iTunes on October 21, 2014, Listen Up Philip seems like the kind of literary writer’s block that yields something worthwhile. The film also stars Krysten Ritter, Josephine De La Baume, Drew Hemingway, and Jess Weixler.
