Whether it is Chinese influences probing the United States’ cyber infrastructure, the NSA potentially reading your emails, or some malcontent attempting to ruin Jennifer Lawrence’s life, the threat of hacking is omnipresent in the news and the culture of the 21st century.
So, the time is obviously right for a big Hollywood take on the rise of cyber-terrorism. And who better to save the day than reformed Chris Hemsworth? With Thor trying to save the day in Michael Mann’s new Blackhat, hacking ahs never seemed so ruggedly action-packed.
Blackhat is set within the world of global cybercrime. Legendary Pictures’ film will follow a furloughed convict (Hemsworth) and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta.
Directed and produced by Michael Mann, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Viola Davis, Tang Wei, and Wang Leehom; it is written by Morgan Davis Foehl and Michael Mann. Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce alongside Mann while Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod serve as the executive producers.
Blackhat slips into theaters on January 16, 2015.
