Star Wars Episode VII will allegedly feature a new kind of Stormtrooper known as a chrome trooper.
Indie Revolver, who previously revealed a seemingly authentic design for the new Stormtroopers in Star Wars Episode VII, have uncovered the alleged concept design for a brand new type of Stormtrooper.
Meet the Chrometrooper:
If confirmed, this could be the work of Prequel Trilogy concept artist Doug Chiang. The shiny design of the trooper sure looks like something out of the chrome days of the Galactic Republic.
Indie Revolver posits that:
A couple sources have expressed that the chrome troopers are a private security force for Adam Driver’s character – silver mercenary rent-a-cops rather than true Imperial Forces for Adam Driver’s character. While we’ve not heard this from anyone directly, the most abundant rumor about Driver is that he’s a wealthy aristocrat with an interest in Sith artifacts. While this production seems eager to distance themselves from the prequel era, of all the films’ props this design shares DNA most closely with the Naboo ships. The chrome finish and elegant curves fit in with that established aesthetic perfectly. Might JJ try to make lemonade out of lemons with Padme’s home planet? Could our Sith-obsessed aristocrat hail from the same planet/society as Vader’s wife?
Neither Disney or J.J. Abram's Bad Robot have confirmed the news, and we doubt they will until showtime. They've got another potentially spoiler-y piece of concept art over on their site, as well, and it's worth a look. You should absolutely treat this as rumor, but given their recent track record, it does appear that Indie Revolver have someone on the inside.
