The plot thins. It turns out that William Shatner has had discussions about Star Trek 3 or Star Trek 13 or whatever it is...
Well, what a nutty week this has been for Star Trek fans. Assuming, of course, you care at all about which classic Trekfigurehead will be shoehorned into the reboot this time around. Leonard Nimoy did his time, and now it may be William Shatner's turn.
At least that's what an initial report about Star Trek 3 (or Star Trek 13, depending on how you choose to look at the franchise) said. But then Mr. Shatner went ahead and denied any knowledge of such things. But now, the Captain has decided to come clean. We think. It's tough to tell.
Mr. Shatner told a crowd at Wizard World Nashville that he had indeed fielded a call from JJ Abrams, who told him that Bob Orci would love to see Kirk and Spock reunite on screen. Shatner's response? “It depends on what you do with the character, but I would be delighted.”
Shatner had apparently been sworn to secrecy by Abrams (who does love such things). Why is he coming clean about it?
“It’s all over the Internet that the director had held an interview and said they want Shatner and Nimoy to be in the next movie. I’ll bet you J.J.’s frothing at the mouth at this point. So the news is out that they have an idea that they want Leonard and myself…they might want Leonard and myself in it. But I would love to do it. But how do you get me fifty years later into the movie? I mean how do you rationalize it. I know it’s science fiction, but even I couldn’t come up with an idea. So that’s the news on that.”
We don't know what to believe anymore.
