Ron Howard's Dark Tower adaptation is still going to happen, no matter how slowly it moves. It's okay, Stephen King said so.
"It took me 35, 36 years to write The Dark Tower," said Stephen King of what some consider his masterpiece. As for the movie, "sooner or later, it'll show up." For fans, it's often felt like later, but the master of horror has promised that Ron Howard's ambitious film and TV adaptation of his multi-book saga is still coming.
It's been some time since we've had anything even resembling an official update on the Dark Toweradaptation. Ron Howard is at the helm, and the plan is to tell the story not just as a film, but as a series of television seasons, too. "The idea of using the front story as theatrical tent pole movies, and using the back story of when the characters are a little bit younger as a TV thing,” King told MTV.“To be able to shoot both at the same time, and use these big sets for TV — it’s a very innovative idea.”
Don't expect to see Javier Bardem as Roland, unfortunately, though. "He was perfect," said King. "We were this close to a green light. You know how it is in Hollywood."
Sadly, we do.
