Robert Downey Jr. appears to have just confirmed there are plans for Iron Man 4 while talking to Ellen DeGeneres. Marvel must love this...
There seems little question that as long as Robert Downey Jr. is playing Iron Man—which he is contracted to do well into this decade with Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers 3—every other project’s press will begin with, “So are you doing the next Iron Man?”
Case in point, Downey’s press days for The Judge seem to be more about Iron Man 4 than the new movie in which he co-stars with Robert Duvall and Billy Bob Thornton. We have already heard Downey say that there are no plans currently underway for an Iron Man 4 to be coming out in the near future, however, he might have just changed his tune while appearing today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
When the inevitable cross-examination for the superhero’s alter-ego began, Downey started out with a very mumbled and half-hearted response:
“I know there’s going to be a bunch more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best, and we’re in the middle of negotiation,” he said before trailing off.
But when Ms. DeGeneres added a follow-up question with just enough heat to barely toast bread, Downey said, “Okay, yes! Yes.”
Could that be a confirmation for Iron Man 4 or is it simply just Downey having fun with Ellen DeGeneres and her audience whose approving cheer only grew louder with his concluding smirk? Watch the video for yourself and decide the validity of this admission.
