After struggling at the box office, telly will be the new home of The Mortal Instruments…
With The Maze Runner already outrunning its production budget at the US domestic box office alone, and The Hunger Games and Divergentboth profiteering on massive franchise levels, The Mortal Instruments does stand-out somewhat as the young adult novel adaptation which failed to take off. Critically and financially, it took a sizeable bashing.
However, unlike the Darren Shan Cirque Du Freak books (which also stumbled at the first cinematic hurdle),The Mortal Instrumentsare going to try again. Despite the problems with the film adaptation, The Mortal Instruments saga is returning to our screens. This time as a television series.
Constantin Film, who produced the unsuccessful film, will also produce the new series. Although no broadcast partners are yet confirmed, it’s believed shooting will start next year.
Head honcho of Constantin Martin Moszkowicz said recently that “It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series. There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of The Mortal Instruments film. In the series we'll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.”
