It doesn't look as if Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers 3 and 4. But Captain America 2's the Russo brothers may be...
Marvel has been putting its pieces firmly into place over the past few months by the sounds of it and, off the back of their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it sounds as if Joe and Anthony Russo have become one of the studio's key directing teams.
The duo are set to direct Captain America 3, which we learned this morning is set to feature Chris Evans' hero going head to head with Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, kicking off the screen version of Marvel's Civil War storyline. But, amidst a flurry of potential spoilers for The Avengers 3 and beyond (and this is a spoiler-light story, so we've left them out), it's being reported that the Russos are looking like Marvel's choice to direct The Avengers 3, and possibly The Avengers 4as well.
That assumes that Joss Whedon won't be back to direct The Avengers 3. That's feasible, although it's unlikely if that's the case that he'd break his ties with the Marvel cinematic universe. One way or another, Whedon is likely to remain involved.
At the moment, he's in post-production on Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and from what we're hearing, following that film and the rumoured events of CaptainAmerica 3, Marvel is lobbing a proverbial grenade into the midst of its film world.
As for the Russos? They sound an excellent choice to us. We'll keep you posted as we hear more...
