Christian Bale has entered negotiations with Sony to star as Steve Jobs in the upcoming Danny Boyle/Aaron Sorkin biopic.
First he played the savior of Gotham, and next he will be the Hebrews’ liberator in Exodus: Gods and Kings. But now, movie star Christian Bale is in talks to take on the most revered and idolized figure of the 21st century: no, not Moses, but Jobs. Steve Jobs to be exact.
Despite having once been director David Fincher’s first choice for the part of the Apple Computers co-founder, Bale’s likelihood to take on the currently untitled Steve Jobs biopic, penned by The Social Network’s Aaron Sorkin, dissipated when Fincher left the project, and Danny Boyle took over. Boyle had set his sights on Leonardo DiCaprio, who he previously worked on with The Beach, but DiCaprio has since walked away from the production, leaving, as according to The Hollywood Reporter, some prime movie real estate for Bale to don the iconic black turtleneck and jeans in.
However, Bale is currently also in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to star as Det. Travis McGee in the studio’s Deep Blue Goodbye adaptation—which coincidentally Leonardo DiCaprio also once was considered as the lead in and who is still producing the film. But with talks stalling since Fox wants Bale to sign a multi-picture deal, which the British actor seems less than keen on these days, Sony has stepped in to woo him back to playing Steve Jobs. Meanwhile, there is still a possibility that he will meet the Deep Blue Goodbye at a later date, assuming of course it is as a standalone picture deal.
One thing is for certain: this will undeniably be better than the Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs movie.
