Warner Bros confirmed its upcoming DC Comics movies last week, but Sandman wasn't on it. Neil Gaiman has revealed why...
Not that we want to appear too skeptical, but we were a little confused when Sandmanwasn't mentioned when Warner Bros. revealed their slate of DC Comics movie last week. After all, they dropped things like a Green Lanternreboot and a Cyborgsolo movie on us, but there was no sign of one movie that we know is a little further along in the production process than several of those others: Sandman.
We know that Jack Thorne is working on the screenplay, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is attached to produce (and might even direct and star). I had my own suspicions that Sandmanwould occupy one of those November release dates on WB's calendar, but all of those are now occupied by Fantastic Beasts movies. In short, where the hell is our Sandman movie?
It seems that there's a pretty simple answer to this. Neil Gaiman took to his Tumblr to explain that "it's not a DC Comics film. It's a Vertigo film. That's a different slate of films, and a different announcement."
That make sense, and offers the tantalizing possibility that we might see more than one Vertigo film coming to haunt us at some point. I'd kill for another SwampThingmovie, myself...
