Adam McKay didn't, in the end, direct Ant-Man. But he's chatting to Marvel about directing something else...
Had schedules taken a different turn, then Anchormandirector Adam McKay might right now be on the set of Ant-Man, calling the shots. When Edgar Wright abruptly departed the project earlier in the year, McKay was high on Marvel's wishlist of replacements, yet his commitments elsewhere meant he passed on the project (Peyton Reed has since taken it on). Instead, he spent six to eight weeks doing a script rewrite, as we discussed here.
However, Adam McKay may yet be taking a Marvel movie on in the future.
In a new interview that's landed at Crave Online, he revealed that he'd greatly enjoyed working with Marvel on theAnt-Man project. And furthermore, "we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters. We haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on."
His use of the word 'definitely' elevates this story from mere rumour and conjecture into something more solid, we'd argue. What McKay's Marvel film is likely to be, if indeed the deal is done, is a mystery. If Ant-Man is a success, we wouldn't rule him out of Ant-Man 2, though.
We'll keep you posted as we hear more...
