Toy Story 4 is happening. It even has a familiar director and will arrive in 2017. Disney is just relentless, aren't they?
Bob Iger isn't screwing around. Disney has hammered everyone with a remarkable show of strength over the last several weeks, announcing a comprehensive slate of superhero movies, dropping the title of the new Star Wars movie on everyone's heads, and now...the revelation that Toy Story 4 is coming in 2017.
Yes, we agree, Toy Story 3 ended things perfectly, but this is how these things go. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 director John Lasseter will direct.
The Hollywood Reporter has details on the writing team behind the fourth installment, which includes Lasseter along with Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich, all of whom have been involved with all three films in franchise. THR also reported that the writing team of Rashida Jones and Will McCormack is also involved on the project.
Iger did not say whether the previous trilogy's well known voice acting cast, which includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, and more, will be returning. Yet, we suspect that you can almost certainly count on it.
Perhaps they'll take The LEGO Movie approach and allow cameos from Star Wars and Marvel characters. Let's see if ToyStory 4 can out earn Frozen, then...
Mr. Iger dropped the news casually this afternoon on an earnings call. More on this as we hear it, of course...
