Warner Bros. have already made an offer to a female director for the Wonder Woman movie, we just don't know who...
The Wonder Woman movie is going to be here on June 23rd, 2017. It has a star in Gal Gadot. It may or may not have a writer. If it does, they're keeping him or her quiet. And it certainly doesn't have a director...yet.
We know that Warner Bros. is looking to find the right woman to direct the debut cinematic outing of one of DC's most important characters. We can cross one name off that list: Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander. "I can’t say they wouldn’t consider me, but they haven’t reached out,"she told Forbes. But Ms. Alexander did say that Warner Bros. have made an offer to somebody (she doesn't say who), and "If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me."
She expressed some caution, though, about attaching a female director to a movie like Wonder Woman, which comes with all manner of marketing and studio considerations and expectations. “How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director, imagine if it fails,"she told Fast Company."And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the fucking weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No way.”
Both of those interviews with Lexi Alexander that we linked up above are well worth reading, by the way.
Anyone want to place their bets on Kathryn Bigelow as Wonder Woman director?
