Starz has greenlit Ash Vs. Evil Dead, a new TV series starring Bruce Campbell with a chainsaw arm. Sam Raimi is onboard to write and direct.
It’s clear that Starz has been shopping smart with their recent Ash Vs. Evil Dead pick-up. They’ve been shopping S-Mart.
Yep, in a revelation that will undoubtedly have fans jumping for joy, Starz announced a new television follow up to the Evil Dead trilogy (of the original variety) with Bruce Campbell set to star in the series! And trust me, this ain’t just pillow talk, baby.
The reveal comes with the news that Ash vs. the Evil Dead will be a 10-part half-hour comedy series (we’re sure with plenty of “horror,” or at least gore) that will run sometime in 2015. The new show will also reunite Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert in the world of Evil Dead and they'll serve on the series as executive producers. Further, Raimi will even be writing and directing part of the series!
Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik said, “Starz first worked with Sam [Raimi] and Rob [Tapert] on Spartacus, and we are thrilled to be back in business with them. With Sam writing and directing, and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they’ve been craving.”
The logline synopsis for the series goes:
Ash is the stock boy, aging lothario, and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terror of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons—personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
Sam Raimi will direct the first episode of the series, which he will co-write with his brother, Ivan.
Bruce Campbell said, “I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide—it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious Deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor.”
For his part, Raimi sees it as a grand opportunity to follow up on Ash’s lame, pathetic saga.
“Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga,” Raimi said. “With his chainsaw arm and his boomstick, Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”
Personally, we just hope that there is room for Jane Levy’s Mia to make a guest appearance too on Ash Vs. Evil Dead. The only thing better than just Ash chainsawing his enemies to pieces is Ash and a fellow monster killer with matching chainsaw limbs!
